SoundCloud App

Just updated my computer and Apple decided to plonk it's new App Store down on me dock so I thought I'd give it a spin. Stumbled across the new SoundCloud App.

Right now I'm in the process of getting together a series of finished tracks to put on the net and the new app more than facilitates me doing this. I can upload tracks with the program, add artwork etc. just like in iTunes, but one of the coolest features is the recording function. If I want to post up a work in progress chunk of a track I can just play the tune and use the SoundCloud app to record the part I want. It means that I don't have to worry about mastering or anything, just shove it on the web a-sap. Obviously when the track is finished I'm gonna while away hours making sure it's absolutely bloody perfect.

Another great feature is that you can grab all those tracks and mixes from other artists that you've been listening to and group them all in one place so you can listen to them offline like Spotify/iTunes. Which means I can listen to this beauty over and over again!

Old and New Favourites

A NEW HOME! Stumbled upon this flavors.me shindiggedy and thought I'd chuck everything in one place and start keeping it up to date again! I've got about 10 semi-finished reviews from back when the blog was churning along so I'll finish those at some point and get them up. But in the meantime the format is going to be loads of lil' tidbits and the occasional essay. 

So here's a new a favourite: 

Gorillaz' Empire Ants get's remixed by Miami Horror - sheesh, the best song from Plastic Beach being remixed by one of my favourite new bands! 

The song was never really going to be made any better, but this is an awesomely chilled summery take on it. Crying shame that it's January really.

Chromeo - Don't Turn The Lights On (Aeroplane Remix)

As Chromeo remixes go this is a pretty valiant attempt by Aeroplane and it's very much in keeping with Chromeo's overall style. 3:37 onwards really does it for me with an awesome new piano solo coupled with the original guitar solo over Aeroplanes funkalicous ascending bass line.

Caribou - Swim

Having reviewed 'Odessa' - the groovy opening track from Caribou's 'Swim' LP and now hearing that they're going to be playing this year's Bestival, I thought I'd go the whole hog and listen to the album in its entirety.

The Samps!

Like some bizarre compilation of jolly interludes these six short and punchy segments from the aptly named 'The Samps' employ funk, jazz and plenty of synth-based boogie to produce a highly listenable EP that isn't altogether dissimilar to the work of 'The Avalanches.' There is an unpolished charm to the EP and I cant decide whether the songs need more work or not. Either way it's a taster of great things to come from The Samps.
