Caribou - Swim

Having reviewed 'Odessa' - the groovy opening track from Caribou's 'Swim' LP and now hearing that they're going to be playing this year's Bestival, I thought I'd go the whole hog and listen to the album in its entirety.

Caribou - Odessa

A week or so ago I followed a Facebook advert to download a free cover song by one of my favourite bands - Kula Shaker. The song was a studio-recorded version of a cover that Kula Shaker had played live quite a bit called 'Melody Day' by Caribou. Thought I'd check out Caribou's MySpace and it turns out that he's putting out an album next month called 'Swim' and further exploration unveiled this little number going by the name of 'Odessa.' The song is a real concoction of haunting vocals, metallic percussion, eastern flutes and even the occasional funky guitar strum; all tied together with energetic drum fills and a contagious driving bass line.

Also randomly, apparently BBC 6Music could be entirely funded for £6m a year which is less than Chris Moyles senseless salary of £6.3m!
